Science day

Yesterday was a science-y sort of day around here. In an effort to teach Blaise about how things grow and the art of composting, we did two great projects. First, we planted basil, mint, and cilantro in clear cups. I'm known for my black thumb, so hopefully they actually sprout! I'll keep you all updated :)
Our second project was to create a viewable compost bin, using the Compost Container by Education Insights (purchased at Kettlemuck's Toy Shoppe, of course!) The compost bin has three see through compartments and comes with thermometers, in case you want to track the temperature differences throughout the compost process. We put a banana peel in the first compartment, paper in the second, and a styrofoam cup in the third. We had a lot of fun burying each item in the soil, and I think Blaise will enjoy watching the banana peel decompose.
